My Story

When I was a small child in preschool I was so bouncy that running seemed so much more interesting at the time than coloring or drawing. When I was 5 years old I finally started wanting to draw and color. By 7 years old I was drawing a hand painting on an art easel, a hand painting on another art easel. When my mom saw that, she asked me to draw an object she put on the table in front of me, to her surprise I flipped the object around in my head and drew it from a side that I couldn’t visually see it. That’s when my mom knew I had an unusual gift for drawing. That’s also around the time they learned I was dyslexic.

I have had to work so much harder to remember and retain everything I have learned than the average person. If I don’t practice art regularly, I even forget artistic techniques I have learned along the way. But God never leaves you alone in that struggle. I learned a strong work ethic, responsibility and compassion through it.

When I turned 10 years old, our family started doing foster care to help out substance exposed babies. This seriously limited my time to do art, but little babies needing help seemed so much more important in God’s eyes to me. So I would fit drawing into my spare moments.

Little did I know, God would use that lack of time to increase my speed and focus when I did get a chance to draw. As a foster sister, many babies come and go through your home and art has been a great comfort in the grieving process as each was worth loving deeply, even if you get hurt along the way. So as Bezalel was given wisdom and skill through artistic ability from the Holy Spirit, the Lord Jesus Christ is the reason I have any of my abilities since He is the greatest artist there is in creating this world in all its majesty and splendor. To Him be the Glory in whatever path He chooses to use me!
